"From cria to sweater, we cover it all!"
What do we do with our fiber?
After the number one question of "Do alpacas spit like llamas?" our next most common question is " why raise them?" One or the reason is for the fiber. Refer back to
my education page for the history of alpacas to see why
they were and are treated and revered with so much respect!
We encourage alpaca ranches to utilize their fiber and not let it sit in the barn or basement. Over time, it will rot and not be usable for processing. If you don't have time or want to bother with it, consider donating it to fiber pools or processing mills and let them use it!
Shearing date for 2009 - May 12th
We had a busy but successful shear day! Holli is currently sorting through her fiber clip for processing, donation, and fiber art projects!
Here is what we did in 2008:
We just finished up our 2008 shearing season which yielded us over 135 pounds of beautiful suri alpaca fiber! We value all our fiber and a very minimal amount is thrown out. Holli is currently sorting the fiber and skirting blankets either for show competitions or processing. Here is how our crop of fiber for 2008 is being used:
*Best fleeces go to competitions throughout the country all year long either in fleece shows and/or spin offs.
*Blankets will be skirted for processing into soft rovings for resale for handspinning, felting, and weaving.
*Blankets will be skirted for processing directly into exquisite yarn for resale.
*New this year, seconds and thirds were given to a fiber pool that will process the fiber and manufacture products here in the United States. Check out our farm store as it features American made products from this fiber pool!
*dirty thirds are used for lightly mulching around flower and vegetable beds to keep unnecessary critters (including our dog, Lizzie) from digging.

Don't have time to manage your show
fleeces? Let Holli show them for you
Fleeces to Go was launched in June of
2009 after Holli saw many fleeces lose
points and ribbon placements due to
improperly prepared fleeces! Let Holli help you achieve the desired results for your fleeces!
Why show your fleeces? 5 easy answers:
1. Judging based on absolute system vs. comparison system in halter class.
2. Get valuable feedback on the quality of your alpaca's fleece via scorecard.
3. Use these results for marketing your alpacas.
4. Safe for your alpacas, keep them at home while their fleeces earns ribbons.
5. Cost effective, many shows accept mail in entries.
Price for skirting show blankets: $35.00 for Huacaya and $45 for suri.
